Frequently Asked Questions

Goodsend app FAQs

Can I choose who I’m giving to?

Yes, you can choose to give to an individual via the Goodsend app. At the end of the month, we’ll deliver your donation directly to your intended recipient.

How does the Goodsend Community Fund work?

At the end of each month, we evenly split this pool of donations amongst the pending candidates in need of help. Additionally, the Goodsend Community Fund is the easiest way to ensure that you’re always making an impact in Chicago. With as little as $5/month, you can send a micro-donation directly to a student in need once a month, and receive updates of your impact via email along the way.

How do does the Monthly Giveaway Program work?

Each month, we reward one lucky Goodsend donor with a free item. Previous winners have received a PS5 and different gift cards. To enter our giveaway in a given month, simply donate at least $5 on the Goodsend app. Users that have recurring donations with us, earn 3x giveaway entries each month.

Are my donations tax-deductible?

Yes, your donations through Goodsend are processed via Our Change Foundation (EIN is 86-3353394). You will receive a tax-deductible receipt after each of your donations.

Who is Realize Impact?

Realize Impact is our fiscal sponsor organization. Essentially, they lend us their 501(c)3 status, and allow us to intake tax-deductible donations. At the end of each month, they transfer that month’s donations to Goodsend, and we then disburse the funds to the current Chicago students in need.

Who is Our Change Foundation?

They are our donation processing partners and also a 501(c)3 organization based in San Francisco, CA.

How do I know that Goodsend candidates are truly ‘in-need’ and not just taking advantage of the system?

All recipients in the community are vetted and referred to us by our nonprofit and school partners. Each student and/or their family is of the ‘low-income’ status at their respective school, and provides additional background information to accompany their request for funding.

How quickly does my donation get to a low-income student in my area?

Within 30 days.

How is Goodsend any different than GoFundMe?

  • Goodsend is a localized service. Right now, we’re only operating in the Chicagoland area. So, Goodsend is the #1 way for Chicagoans to give to students locally.
  • Unlike GoFundMe, not just anyone can request funding with Goodsend. Candidates in need must be referred to our network by our nonprofit and school partners.
  • Rewards. As a Goodsend donor, you are automatically entered into monthly giveaways of free items such as PS5’s, Venmo Cash Prizes, gift cards, and more.
